Silk returns: a material with astonishing properties
- Categories : News

Is there any material more comfortable to wear than silk?

When you slip it on, when you feel its softness and lightness against your skin, it is surely difficult at that moment to imagine that there could be a more pleasant fabric...

But silk is extraordinary not only for this reason!

For us, it is an exceptional material, which we are eager to have you rediscover, by featuring it in an entire collection for this season.

A precious material, born of craftsmanship

And if one first had to know the history of a fabric to grasp all its nuances, its preciousness, and thus to fully measure its quality?

But do you really know silk?

It is a noble material, derived from the cultivation of mulberry trees and the breeding of silkworms.

Silk is indeed an amazing material, crafted from the threads of cocoons, threads that can be up to 1500m long.

A meticulous work, offered by nature and maintained by humans for millennia.

Of course, it requires a bit of work from the silk thread cocoons before arriving at such a pretty model:

a bit of history now:

Did you know that during the Renaissance period, the finest silks were woven in Italy, in Florence and Venice, and of course, in France?

In Europe, it was King Francis I who granted the monopoly of silk production to the city of Lyon, which then became the European capital!

You probably know this, but the technique for producing silk was imported from a mythical route, which for 2000 years and about 2000 years before our era, saw travelers along its roads... The famous "Silk Road".

Today, silk is produced in many countries, but at that time, the manufacturing secrets were well kept.

In those days, silk even became a currency of exchange for gold, precious stones, and spices, a strategic and political weapon... Which definitively makes it a material expressing a very great symbolic power.

Finally, let's return to its softness now :)

Silk has many properties

In addition to its pleasant touch, this natural fiber has unparalleled virtues:

  • a rare softness
  • very resistant
  • isothermal
  • thermoregulatory (it keeps warm in winter and cools in summer)
  • fluid
  • soft blend with other materials (mohair, cotton, cashmere, wool)

Furthermore, silk never aggresses your skin.

Some even recognize its softening and moisturizing properties (it is true that this fiber takes care of the skin in a certain way, as it does not dehydrate the epidermis).

Silk: a beautiful material, which we take care of

Valérie Chaffin, our collection director, takes pleasure in offering you each year models imagined from this exceptional material... translated into a limited collection and available only on our website.

Throughout the pages of our online catalog, you can discover two types of silk used:

  • silk satin, in "navy and powder" colors
  • Silk satin is a solid, shiny, uniform material.
  • washed silk, in "grape and duck" colors

Washed silk is a fabric that has undergone a treatment to remove its shine and can also be worn slightly crinkled, to adopt a more casual look.

The main difference lies in the way of weaving the silk: which allows obtaining chiffons, crepes, satin therefore, or many other types of fascinating and unique materials.

"Every year, in the creation department, we love to work our silk capsule, because each of us can then test the different qualities and colors for a few days and nights... A real pleasure! This season, we fell in love with washed silk, whose slightly matte and crinkled appearance gives a pretty look in the air of time, and even in teleworking, with a pair of jogging bottoms..." - Valérie Chaffin
